Providing Support for ESL Students

Communication assignments can present a challenge if English is not your first language, and the Program in Writing and Communication (PWC) offers resources specifically for non-native English speakers.

CONSULTATIONS

An important resource is the Center for Academic and Professional Communication (CAPC), which offers one-on-one consultations with a peer consultant so you can get useful feedback while writing a paper, practicing a presentation, or creating a PowerPoint deck or research poster.

ONLINE RESOURCES

The CAPC also has created a library of specific online resources to help you find the tools you need to improve your academic communication skills.

WORKSHOPS

You can take advantage of free CAPC communications workshops for undergraduate or graduate students. The center has workshops specifically designed for non-native English speakers on topics such as building your English vocabulary.

COURSES

The PWC also offers three credit-bearing communication courses for international graduate students whose first language is not English: COMM 600, 601, 602.
