Our staff works one-on-one with professors across many disciplines at Rice. We support instructors as they create, assign, teach, and grade written, oral, and visual communication assignments. Request a consultation to meet with a PWC staff member to brainstorm the kinds of aid best suited for your course’s learning outcomes and student communication goals. Support can include:
Syllabus Consultation
We discuss course goals and how to incorporate communication expectations in the syllabus.
Assignment and/or Rubric Design
We help articulate the goals of an assignment, signal expectations, and define evaluation criteria.
Instructional Materials
We work with you to customize workshops, presentations, and activities to help students achieve learning and communication goals.
Grading and Feedback Strategies
We share strategies for providing thoughtful, timely feedback to students on their written and oral communication.
Grader Training for TAs or Communication Coaches
We train TAs or undergraduate coaches to provide feedback to student writing. We can also arrange for students to work individually with trained peer-consultants from the CAPC.
