Katie Homar is the Associate Director of Disciplinary Communication Initiatives of the Center for Academic and Professional Communication (CAPC). Her primary responsibilities include collaborating with faculty to integrate communication into disciplinary teaching and learning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She holds a PhD in English from University of Pittsburgh as well as certificates in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and instructional design. She has taught and mentored writers across disciplines for over a decade at University of Pittsburgh, Georgia Institute of Technology, and North Carolina State University, where she created a novel suite of writing workshops and retreats for graduate students. Through her doctoral training as a Romanticist and rhetorician, her work has been published in Studies in Romanticism, Advances in the History of Rhetoric, and Rhetoric Review, and she is a frequent contributor to Inside Higher Education’s Carpe Careers column, reflecting her more recent experiences designing programs at the intersection of graduate professional development and writing instruction.
