Join us for the Fall 2026 Communication Pedagogy Network Event!
Naming What You Know: Making Disciplinary Communication Conventions Clear to Students
This session helps instructors unpack the tacit knowledge and unspoken communication expectations inherent in their fields. By exploring threshold concepts and examining academic disciplines as specific discourse communities, this conversation will provide strategies for helping students transition from academic outsiders to confident insiders.
Wednesday, October 21st, 12-1pm @ Herring 129
*Lunch is provided for registered attendees
The Communication Pedagogy Network connects members of the Rice teaching community interested in sharing and improving strategies in writing and communication instruction at Rice.
From those who teach a First-year Writing Intensive Seminar (FWIS) to faculty teaching upper-level courses within their majors, the Network represents a collective of teachers who help Rice students become stronger communicators and writers. As a member of the Network, you'll benefit from the rich knowledge of other Rice faculty and contribute to innovative strategies for teaching, assigning, and grading writing and communication at Rice.
