The Program in Writing and Communication (PWC) is currently collaborating with faculty in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CHBE) to help their majors acquire field-specific knowledge and communication skills as they advance through the curriculum.
The PWC has developed a CID curriculum plan that builds on existing communication instruction in eight core courses, beginning with the first course in the major, CHBE 301: Chemical Engineering Fundamentals, and culminating in the capstone Product and Process Design course.
The courses were selected by the faculty based on the department’s goals and the faculty’s desire to target specific skills such as data presentation, persuasive oral argumentation, and report writing.
In addition to curriculum planning, the PWC contributes to this CID project by
- lecturing in classes;
- training upper-level students in the major to serve as peer communication coaches; and
- assessing outcomes.
